Hi folks! Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here in Prescott and I thought I would take a moment today and talk about one of the most important steps in our pre-inspection process for rug cleaning – the dye migration test!
When area rugs come into our shop here at Arizona Oriental, the first thing we always do is a pre-inspection of the rug to find out the exact condition. This allows our expert area rug cleaning technicians to determine what method of cleaning is best for each individual rug. This way, each and every area rug that comes through our facility gest EXACTLY what it needs!
There is another step involved in our pre-inspection process, though, that is probably the most important step of them all! Sure, we look for pre-existing conditions on each of the rugs but the BIG question on these rugs is always whether or not the colors are stable.
Our dye migration test is performed on each and every area rug to determine if the colors are stable or if they need to be pretreated to help stabilize the colors for the cleaning. Color bleeding is an indication that the colors were not set properly during manufacturing.
If the dye migration results come back negative, then there’s nothing to worry about! However, if the rug needs to have a pre-treatment done to help stabilize the colors and prevent them from bleeding in the wash process, we need to know! Our pre-treatment is designed to lock colors into their dye sites so that they don’t move when we do clean them. This treatment is a very effective treatment for nearly every rug and we typically don’t have any issues with preventing colors from moving.
As you can see, this is one of the most important steps in our cleaning and pre-cleaning inspection process! Making sure that we know if the colors are stable are not really makes the world of difference when going to clean a rug. It’s what sets us apart from your wall-to-wall carpet cleaner who says they can clean your area rugs in your home. Most wall-to-wall carpet cleaners don’t think about whether or not the colors are stable when they commit to cleaning an area rug in the home, which can lead to a whole mess of problems!
