Hi folks! Ruthie here in Prescott AZ with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care once again and I hope you have all been having a nice start to the new year so far. Today I wanted to talk about something that we see a lot here in rugs, especially Tribal rugs - abrash.
What is abrash? Sometimes called arbrush, it is the uneven coloring in area rug, shown here in the rug pictured to the left! This occurs when the weavers use wool that comes from different batches of dye. Sometimes the color appears to be the same at first, but as the dyes oxidize or fade the differences will show up more.
This is actually a greatly desired look because it allows the rug to be completely one of a kind! In fact, machine-made rugs often include abrash to simulate hand-knotted Tribal rugs.
In some cases, these color differences only show up once the rug is cleaned because all of the soil that was hiding the differences is washed away. Nothing went wrong with your rug, it’s just part of it’s natural beauty! Rugs with abrash are truly one of a kind!
Till next time, enjoy your beautiful art for your floor and remember a clean rug is a rug that can last you a lifetime!
