What to do With Loose Yarns on Your Area Rug

Hi folks!  Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here in Prescott AZ with another rug care tip for all of you today!  Have any of you noticed a loose yarn or two (maybe even more) poking up at you from your area rug?

If you have an area rug with a plush pile, you can snip the loose yarn(s) without doing any harm to the rug.  Just use a pair of curved nail scissors and, without pulling the yarn further, carefully snip the top of the loose yarn so that it’s once again even with the rest of the pile.  Easy peasey!

If your area rug has looped face fibers (like a flatweave Native American rug for instance), NEVER cut off a loop that was snagged and pulled up!!!  These rugs are made with continuous loops and snipping it away will break the continuous thread.  If you cut it, the rug will unravel into a big mess. Having a snagged loop may seem unsightly to you now, but just imagine what your rug would look like when it’s unravelling.
