Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here in Prescott and I’m going to get straight to my point for today – time is the enemy when it comes to area rugs in water damages.  When your rug remains wet for extended periods of time, it is much more likely that permanent damage will occur.

These are just a few of the things that an area rug remains wet for extended periods of time can suffer:

• Dry rot, leading to cuts, holes, and the shredding of fibers.
• Dye migration and bleeding.
• Mold and mildew growth.
• Discoloration and turning a brown-ish color in areas.
• If the rug is tufted and has a piece of cloth glued to the back, the risk of delamination skyrockets.

These things may or may not be correctable and may leave your rug with permanent damages.
