What to Do If Your Area Rug Is in a Water Damage – Prescott AZ
I’m Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here in Prescott and I’ll just cut to the chase – time is the enemy when it comes to water-damaged area rugs. The longer a rug remains wet, the more likely it is that permanent damage will occur.
Here are just a few of the things that an area rug may suffer from when it remains wet for too long:
- Dry rot, leading to cuts, fiber shredding, and holes.
- Dye migration
- Mold and mildew growth
- Discoloration and turning brown-ish in color.
- If the rug is tufted (with a piece of cloth glued to the back), the risk of delamination skyrockets.
These things may or may not be correctable.
Bacteria should ALWAYS be a homeowner’s #1 concern! How did the rug get wet? If there was a toilet leak, the water may look clean but it may very likely have high levels of bacteria that need to be treated as soon as possible.
At Arizona Oriental, we have procedures to properly disinfect rugs that have been in a water damage. Once arriving at your home, we will extract any standing water from the rug (if it is still wet), then temporarily wrap it in plastic for transport back to our rug washing facility. We will then unload your rug and immediately begin the disinfecting and drying procedures.
