Finding an area rug that perfectly complements the other colors in the room isn’t always the easiest thing in the world. When you do find that perfect rug, though, you also have to consider the size of the rug. If you’ve fallen for a rug that’s a little small for your room, I might have an idea for you.
TRY LAYERING! Layering rugs with one on top of the other is a fun, fresh look and is something that has been gaining a lot of traction in the interior design world lately. I have to agree that it looks fabulous! Placing a smaller rug on top of a larger rug suddenly changes everything and the rugs can make a dream team that fits the room perfectly. The larger rug can act as a border for the smaller rug, which is lots of fun now that you get to choose the border around your small rug. The larger rug can complement the design of the smaller rug and really pull the whole room together. You’ve also just solved your problem of having a rug that’s too small!
On the other hand, you may have a rug that is a bit overbearing for the room. Perhaps there are too many colors or there’s a busy design that just isn’t working. Placing a smaller rug over the larger rug can create an entirely different look and feel. Voila! Instant makeover for your floor! You can also hide all the things you didn’t like about the original rug (maybe even including a stain).
It can be a whole lot of fun decorating with rugs. Letting your imagination run away a bit might just lead you to create the next “to die for” magazine rage, or even just make you the envy of all your friends!
