Ways to Protect Your Rug During Your 4th of July Celebrations - Sedona AZ
Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care and here in Prescott, it’s time for our big holiday bash again. Hundreds of cowboys have gathered at our fairgrounds to compete for titles and purses once again. Enjoying the parades, rodeo, and fireworks with family and friends from out of town is probably one of the best ways to get in on the fun!
It isn’t uncommon during this time of year at Arizona Oriental to get a call from a panicked rug-owner saying that their out-of-town guests brought their four-legged friend along that had an accident on the area rug. Some furry friends get too nervous in new environments and are more prone to having accidents...mostly on area rugs.
The first way you can protect your rug is to be mindful of the needs of visiting animals. They may need to be walked more often than when they’re at home because of the excitement. Keep in mind, too, that animals do have the natural instinct to mark territory. It isn’t uncommon for them to urinate in a new environment. That thick, soft surface of your area rug just so happens to be the perfect place for an accident.
Another way to protect your rug is by keeping visiting animals away from it as much as possible. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention can save you a pound of cure!
Here are a few steps you can take if the visiting animal does have an accident:
- Carefully scrape up any solids that may be present, taking care not to make the spot larger.
- Blot up as much liquid as possible. Place a stack of white paper towels / white rags over the wet spot and stand on it. This will help to transfer the liquid from the area rug into the towels.
- Repeat this step with fresh, dry towels until you aren’t extracting more liquid.
These steps can also be really helpful if a drink spills on your rug, too! I want to avoid recommending any specific cleaning product since some area rugs have unstable dyes. There are some rugs that are so unstable that even just water may cause the dyes to migrate if they haven’t been properly set.
One final way to protect your rug if you are nervous about visiting animals is to roll up your rugs and keep them out of reach. This way, the pets don’t have access at all to your beloved rugs and you don’t have to worry! If an accident does happen, though, call Arizona Oriental for the professional, thorough cleaning that your rug will need.
I hope you all have a festive, enjoyable, and safe 4th of July!
Till next time, enjoy your beautiful art for your floors and remember a clean rug is a rug that can last you a lifetime!
