Tip of the Day – How to Handle Loose Yarns on Area Rugs? – Sedona AZ
Hi there, Ruthie (me) and the Ruggies (my wonderful rug washing wizards) at Arizona Oriental are happy to offer tips from time to time to help you care for your beloved area rugs. Today I’ll be talking about what to do if your area rug has a loose yarn poking up at you.
If your rug has plush face fibers, then without pulling the loose yarn up any further, you can simply snip if off without harming the rug. HOWEVER if you have a rug with a looped face fiber design and one of the loops has been snagged and pulled up (by a vacuum, a shoe, or even a pet) NEVER cut it off! These loops are continuous and by cutting it, you will break the continuous thread and allow the rug pile to unravel. Loose yarns may seem unsightly now, but wait until the rug starts unravelling!
