Tip of the Day – Avoid Aggressive Watering Cans Around Your Area Rugs! – Sedona AZ
Many people enjoy the beauty and lovely nature appeal of having live plans in their home. However, rug owners should take heed! If you overwater potted plants and flood water onto your area rug fibers, you’ll create one of the worst accidents for your area rugs and will likely cause permanent damage through staining the rug. Doing so also runs the very real possibility of causing dry rot to the fibers. Dry rot is the brown rot decay caused by fungi that deteriorate rug fibers (more often the cotton foundation) of area rugs.

You should have either a plastic or other waterproof container beneath your plants to capture any potential water overflow. Be sure to check these waterproof containers every now and again to make sure they aren’t cracked and leaking. Dry rot happens over time when a leak is undetected and let go.
So, with that in mind, be extra careful not to over water your house plants. Make sure you remind your ambitious spouse, the house sitter, and the cleaning service to never over water your plants, too.
Water itself is not only damaging, but the added element of minerals from the soil is extremely damaging as well. Permanent staining from plant soil is very likely. As you can see, there really isn’t a good outcome from overwatering your plants. Prevention is always the best solution.
