Ruthie here with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott, AZ!  I know that some people are able to stay on top of cleaning and regular maintenance throughout their homes much easier than others. 

These people always seem to know when their last cleaning was because they keep perfect records and they vacuum at least once a day and always make sure their area rug is looking great.  This constant removal of dry soil is great for area rugs - it removes the dry soil on the surface of the rug and prevents it from embedding deep in the fibers where it causes the most damage.  Their rug will stay looking cleaner longer and will also last longer as well!

I’m going to be honest with you, though – there is SO much more to “soil” than just the dry dirt particles we think of automatically.

There are less obvious sources of soil that collect on your rug that you simply won’t be able to pick up with just vacuuming.  These include things like:

• Viruses that enter the home.  All of our home’s surfaces are exposed to germs just from everyday life, and rugs are experts at picking up everything!

• Perhaps you have a pet that lays obsessively on your rug because it’s their favorite place in the house (and maybe even lick the rug for hours on end).  Their dander, hair, and body oil gets on your rug and you don’t even realize it!

• Our bare feet may have body lotions and certainly have natural body oils, and possibly even B.O. and athletes feet.

• Or maybe you’ve got the pet that likes to scoot his but across the rug. 

Just vacuuming your rug won’t remove all of these things!
