Ruthie here with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care and today I have a simple question for you: Have you ever wondered if it was better to wear shoes (or slippers) or go barefoot on your area rugs? I wanted to take a few minutes to try and shed some light on that question for you today!
If you’re the type that likes to keep your shoes on in your home, I always think that it’s a good idea to keep a pair of shoes exclusively for indoor use at the entry door. Take off the shoes you’ve been wearing all over town when you get home – you know, the ones that have been all over the streets, stores, and parking lots filled with germs and who-knows-what! By keeping up a practice of wearing indoor-only shoes inside your home, you’ll keep your floors (and area rugs) cleaner longer! This means you can go a little longer before having to have your rug professionally cleaned with us here at Arizona Oriental.
Alternatively, if you prefer to keep your toes free to breathe, keep in mind that our bodies naturally produce oils. Natural body oils, as well as the lotions we apply to keep our skin nice and soft, can cause some serious staining to area rugs. Wearing socks protects your rug’s fibers and, again, lengthen the time in between needing professional rug cleanings done.
As for an answer to the debate between shoes or bare feet – it sounds like both to me!
