The Rug Experts Spill: How to Protect Your Rugs and Pets This Fourth of July Weekend!

Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here in Prescott, AZ and I can’t believe that it’s already that time of year again!  We’re in the second half of 2020 now, and all the reminders about keeping our pets safely indoors this weekend are popping up everywhere.  The loud booming noises of fireworks can be really upsetting for lots of pets and they can try to run away to find shelter if they’re left outside.

I completely agree that we need to protect our pets and keep them as calm as possible.  However, I also think it’s important to protect our area rugs, as well!  After all, pets have a lot better hearing than we do and even if being inside lessens the booming fireworks, it’s still easy for them to get scared of it.

It’s pretty common for a scared or nervous animal to have an accident.  Of course, it always seems that dogs tend to go for our soft area rugs when it comes to having these accidents.  I don’t have any idea why this is, but that just seems to be how it goes!  Keeping this in mind, it may not be the best idea to give your nervous animal access to your area rugs while the fireworks are going off.

If you can, keep your dog in a single room of your home instead of letting them roam the house.  Keeping them in a room with a bed, something to chew on, and maybe even some nice calming music to help drown out the loud booms and help to sooth them is something that I always recommend.  Your dog will be well-protected and you’ll know exactly where they are!  You’ll also make sure that your area rugs are safe from any possible accidents your puppy may have.

Remember, it’s important that you have your area rug professionally cleaned as soon as possible if your pet does happen to have an accident on it.  Here at Arizona Oriental, we specialize in the removal of urine and urine odors from every kind of area rug and we’re always here to help with whatever your rug needs!

From our family to yours, have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!

Till next time, enjoy your beautiful art for your floor and remember a clean rug is a rug that can last you a lifetime!
