The Best Tips for Removing Mud from Your Area Rug - Prescott AZ

The Best Tips for Removing Mud from Your Area Rug - Prescott AZ

Kids can be terrible when it comes to showing any kind of restraint with keeping their muddy shoes off of your area rugs.  And the family dog just cannot be reasoned with when it come to keeping his mud-covered paws off, too.  It seems inevitable that mud is going to wind up getting all over your beloved area rug at some point, right?  I’m Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care, your local area rug cleaning experts, and I am here to hopefully help you with this problem.

These are four easy steps you can do at home to remove mud from your area rugs:

Step One: Wait until the mud dries.  Then carefully remove any solids off of your rug by carefully using the hose of your vacuum to suck up the dry clumps.  Try to avoid making contact with the surface of your rug so you don’t accidentally force the mud deeper into your rug’s fibers.

Step Two: Mix 1 tablespoon of colorless dish soap to 1 cup of cool water.  Take a white cloth and dampen it with this cleaning solution.  Carefully blot this damp cloth over each of the colors in your rug in an inconspicuous spot of your rug to see if the dyes are unstable.  If color is being transferred onto the cloth, STOP YOUR SPOTTING EFFORTS and have Arizona Oriental professionally clean your rug for you.

Step Three: If your rug passed the spot testing and no color was transferred, use the tips of your fingers and gently apply the cleaning mixture to the spot.  Move from the outer edge of the spot toward the center to prevent making the spot larger.  Use white paper towels or cotton cloths to gently blot it up.  DO NOT SCRUB!  Scrubbing forces the dirt deeper into the fibers of the rug.  Repeat this step until you’ve achieved success in removing the mud.

Step Four: Rinse with clear water and pat dry with clean paper towels or a cotton cloth.

Hopefully these steps are helpful for when your family tracks mud across your area rug.  If you are not having success in removing the spot, give Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care a call and we will take care of all your rug’s needs!

Till next time, enjoy your beautiful art for your floors and remember a clean rug is a rug that can last you a lifetime!
