Some folks don’t want to put their area rugs away for a long period of time, but sometimes life happens and it becomes a necessity. Be it moving to a smaller home or just switching out rugs between the seasons, or for any other reason, you need to make sure your area rugs are stored PROPERLY.
WHAT NOT TO DO:

Fold your area rugs. This is NEVER a good idea, especially when it comes to long term storage. This puts extra stress on rug fibers and can and will cause these fibers to disappear.

Leave your rugs unprotected. By this, I mean that you should NOT just roll your rugs up and put them in the garage or a storage unit. Unprotected rugs are the perfect home for moths, mice, and other critters that love your rug fibers!

Store a dirty rug. Any spills or animal urine on your rugs provide extra proteins to your rug fibers, which is only a bigger incentive for moths to make a home out of your rug. RUGS SHOULD ALWAYS BE STORED CLEAN!

Store them in plastic. Plastic (whether it’s a bag or saran wrap) doesn’t allow the rug fibers to breathe and causes moisture to get trapped in the rug. This leads to mold and mildew issues.
HERE’S HOW YOU SHOULD BE STORING YOUR AREA RUGS:

This wrapping is designed to protect your rug from insects, animals, and soil, while also letting your rug fibers breathe!
