Hi folks!  Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here once again.  I wanted to take a moment today to share this little video of us cleaning a wine stain on a beautiful Bokhara rug.

Unfortunately for the owners of this rug, this wine stain had been there for a while and I’m not sure they even knew the extensiveness of it until they brought it into us to clean.  I like to say that ‘stain’ should really be pronounced “stay-in” because a lot of them tend to be permanent.  Here at Arizona Oriental, I always encourage my clients to bring their rugs to me as soon as possible when anything spills on them to prevent permanent staining.

Here’s a secret for you: most cleaning chemicals used at home have a VERY HIGH chance of setting the wine into the rug fibers! This may make it IMPOSSIBLE for us to remove without damage to the rug.

If you do happen to try to clean up the stain at home, flush it out with plain, tepid water and let it dry.  Place an absorbent, white towel on top of the stop to draw the stain out more. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO SCRUB THE SPOT! Doing so will damage the fibers, spread the stain further, and likely set the stain.  Soda water is also useful because the bubbles can help to lift the stain.

Keep in mind that the rug-cleaning professionals are always best suited for removing spills.  This is especially true if you aren’t confident in your ability to clean and treat the spills properly.  It’s important to know your limits when it comes to your rugs, and Arizona Oriental is always here to help!
