Should I Wear Shoes or Go Barefoot on My Area Rugs? – Prescott Valley AZ

We’ve cleaned tons of area rugs here at our facility, including wool, silk, cellulosic fibers, and synthetics – we’ve pretty much seen and cleaned it all!  All rugs need some basic care, from fine Persian and Oriental rugs to Navajo hand woven treasures to the basic machine made Home Depot variety.

When it comes to shoes, Arizona Oriental recommends that if you like to wear shoes in your home, it would be best to have a pair at the entry door exclusively for indoor use.  Kick off the shoes that have been traipsing all over nasty streets, stores, and parking lots filled with germs, parking lot tar, and even road and automobile oil.  By keeping up with this practice, it will likely keep everything that is on the floors of your home (especially your area rugs) cleaner for an extended period of time.  This of course translates to the need to have them professionally cleaned by us at Arizona Oriental less often.  By doing this, you’ll save your floors, your area rugs, and save money while you’re at it.

For my readers that prefer to go all “natural” and like to keep their toes free and unbound, keep in mind that our bodies naturally produce oil.  Natural body oils are a big concern for area rugs, and that’s without all the lotions that we apply to our skin.  We at Arizona Oriental see quite a bit of staining of this sort on area rugs that were in bedrooms and bathrooms.  Slipping a pair of socks on your feet is kind to your area rugs.  Again, this protects your rug fibers and extend the time between professional rug cleanings.

So as for an answer to barefoot or shoes?  I guess it’s neither!  Or maybe it’s both?
