Arizona Oriental will never use powdered rug cleaners for a couple of reasons. Toxic chemicals are in most rug cleaning powders, and pets and kids roll around on the floor and put their faces on the rug. Without a high-tech or industrial vacuum, powders stick to rug fibers.
Hi, folks! I’m Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care.
Many people who try to clean their rugs with these powders end up damaging their rugs and their families.
You pick up the rug deodorizer, read the label, and think, “Wow, this is great, and it will solve all my problems.”
Labels consistently boast that their product is a 2-in-1 rug and room deodorizer, which helps tough odors and then leaves a light, clean fragrance in your home.
To say this is close to the truth would be an exaggeration.
What Occurs When Using a Power Rug Cleaner?
This powder has an overwhelming fragrance. You’re using a floral perfume to cover up the faint urine smell. Even though the urine smell is still present, it is less noticeable. It probably smells a little like urine.
A similar chemical, this one traps in your rug for the smell but, like the one above, can be harmful if it remains there. To those with respiratory sensitivities, the floral scent lingers for a long time. It says “baking soda” on the label, but they don’t specify what other ingredients might be present.
The powder gets stuck in the rug’s backing and can’t be vacuumed as instructed.
Masking urine smells can be tricky because most products warn against using them on damp surfaces, but the urine smell will only intensify as it dries.
Scrub the area with a stiff brush and then vacuum it to remove any stubborn dirt (the spot). Because much of the powder will escape the vacuum and land on the rug’s underside, it is impossible to remove it altogether by vacuuming.
Using enough powder air fresheners, your rug will become powdery and fuzzed.
That no shake and vac powder can eliminate odors is the primary reason they are useless.
Pet urine hurts rug fibers, so if this happens, don’t waste your money; contact Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott or fill in the compact form here for a direct reply.
