When it comes to jute rugs, however, we cannot clean them simply because of how many problems are associated with them when it comes to cleaning. Jute is a rough fiber that is used to make twine and rope, which can also be woven into area rugs.
Here are just some of the many problems that happen when jute rugs are cleaned:
- Rippling and becoming misshapen
- Brown staining and watermarking
- Shrinkage
- Discoloring and looking uneven
Jute has a naturally weak structural integrity. This means that it is more susceptible than other rugs to rippling and shrinkage, leading it to become misshapen more easily. While jute certainly looks nice in our homes and adds a nice natural touch, it’s pretty obvious that manufacturers don’t take into account the fact that these rugs are going to get dirty! Every area rug will need to be cleaned eventually and manufacturers don’t seem to really think that far ahead when making these kinds of rugs.
