It can be difficult to find an area rug that both looks great and perfectly complements the other colors in the room. When you do find that perfect rug, though, you also have to take the size of the rug into consideration. So, if your rug is a little too small, I’ve got an idea…
TRY LAYERING RUGS ONE ON TOP OF ANOTHER! This fun, fresh look has been gaining a lot of traction in the interior design world lately and I must agree that it looks fabulous! Placing a smaller rug on top of a larger rug suddenly changes everything and, as a pair, the two rugs may fit the room perfectly! The larger rug becomes a border for the smaller rug, pulling the whole room together as the larger rug complements the design of the smaller rug! Not to mention you’ve just solved your problem of having a rug that’s too small.
Alternatively, you may have the opposite problem – where the rug is a bit overwhelming for the room. Too many colors or just a busy and unappealing design can really be a problem. Try placing a smaller rug over your large rug to create an entirely different look! Voila! Instant makeover for your floor! You’ve hidden all the things you didn’t like about the large rug (maybe like a stubborn stain).
It can be a whole lot of fun decorating with rugs! Let your imagination run away a bit and you might just create the next “to die for” magazine rage (or maybe just be the envy of all your friends).
