Mice and Moths and Area Rugs - Oh My! Be Careful of Disaster!
Hi folks, Ruthie here with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott AZ! I wanted to take a minute to share with you a few pictures of a couple of different things that can happen to area rugs that aren’t properly stored.
This first little rug was stored in a shed without any protection. I know I’ve talked before about how it’s really important that wool area rugs are stored properly, but this just goes to show that even synthetic rugs should be stored properly as well! A mouse or two (or maybe a family of them) found this rug in our client’s shed and figured that it would make great nesting material! Great for them, but unfortunate for the rug and the client.
Rodents like mice love to use area rug fiber as nesting material - it’s soft, easy to find, and plentiful! They don’t care if it’s wool, silk, or synthetic fibers, it all works just as well in a nest.
This other rug was hit pretty badly by a moth infestation. It, too, was stored improperly in a dark quiet area of our client’s home. These two conditions are PERFECT for a moth, who is looking for somewhere to lay its eggs so that the babies won’t be disturbed as they go through their life cycle. A single moth can create a LOT of area rug damage in a short amount of time, so if you think you have a moth infestation in your rug it’s important to contact us right away!
