How to Remove Sticky Stuff from Rugs. Prescott Rug Cleaner

Despite appearances, removing tree sap requires more than just dabbing it with a solvent and hoping it disappears. The problem arises when you discover that your wool and silk fibers were severely damaged after the procedure.

How to Remove Sticky Stuff from Rugs. Prescott Rug Cleaner

Hi, It’s Ruthie from Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott, AZ.

Some annoying things can create a blemish or stick to the fibers of your favorite wool or silk area rug. For example, seeing tree sap can be a very upsetting experience.

It can be challenging to remove sap from a tufted rag. Because latex glue is used to hold tufted rugs together, removing the sap poses the danger of the rug delaminating and becoming unusable.

Contacting Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care to take care of the tree sap is a great idea. And especially if there's more than a dab of sap on your rug!

Hiring a professional wool rug cleaner will save you a lot of time and stress and protect your rug from any further damage you might cause if you try to clean it yourself.

Home Remedies for Removing Sap from Area Rugs

If you have a small amount of sap and you want to do it yourself, consider the following:

  1. Apply a small amount of the solvent to the end of a Q-Tip before you start; practice in a small, inconspicuous place.
  2. It would help if you immediately rinsed it with a mild solution of 1 tablespoon transparent (no color) hand dishwashing detergent to 2 cups tepid water.
  3. To avoid making the spot bigger, gently apply this to the outer edge of the area with your fingertips and move inwards toward the middle. After rinsing with clear water, blot dry.

I'm happy to advise customers, but I can't be responsible if they hurt themselves trying to remove sap.

I will never advocate for a method to self-clean sap from a wool rug. Instead, it would help if you took it to a rug cleaning specialist, such as Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care in Prescott, Arizona. It's times like these when our rug cleaners' extensive background comes in handy.
