Removing sap from wool area rugs is easy, all you have to do is use a solvent spotter and the sap will dissolve. There’s only ONE PROBLEM! Delicate wool and silk fibers will likely be damaged in the process! Additionally, if your rug is a tufted rug, it is held together with latex glue, which you then run the risk of delaminating the rug resulting in the rug falling apart. Therefore I strongly suggest that if there is more than just a tiny bit of sap, you call Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care and let us take care of the sap for you to avoid further damage.
If it is just a small amount of tree sap and you are feeling adventurous you can try a little solvent on the end of a Q-tip. You must proceed with extreme caution and always pre-test in a tiny inconspicuous area. Additionally you will need to rinse out the solvent immediately with a mild mixture of 1 tablespoon clear (no color added) hand dishwashing detergent to 2 cups tepid water. Apply this with your fingertips and work from the outer edge of the spot towards the center to avoid making the spot larger. Rinse with clear water and blot dry.
Although I have attempted to coach you with the process above, I highly recommend a professional wool area rug cleaner be contacted to assist with tree sap removal. There are just certain things (and this is one of them) where experience is still king!
