Helpful Tips on Avoiding Spill Disasters on Your Area Rugs – Prescott AZ

Hi folks!  Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here in Prescott AZ and I think we all know how life likes to surprise us with things when we least expect it.  From happy surprises like a visiting guests to not-so-happy surprises like sudden, unexpected spills on your area rug.  It’s hard enough to stay on top of keeping our house clean, let alone when an emergency spill happens!

Which is why today I thought I would share these three little area rug spotting tips with you.  Hopefully this short list will help you avoid a disaster with your area rugs, but remember that professional cleaning is often needed to properly treat and remove stains.

When it comes to my area rugs, I always try to make sure that I have these three things on hand to help in spot cleaning.

1. Paper towels work wonders when it comes to blotting up drink spills.  When a drink does spill, time is of the essence and the ability to act fast is essential.  The longer you wait to extract excess fluid from your rug, the more likely that liquid will seep further into your rug and become much tougher to clean up.  There may even be permanent staining.
2. Baby wipes.  When it comes to removing fresh stains on your rug, these work great.  Remember, NEVER rub a stain as you will only spread the stain further and push it deeper into the rug fibers.  Baby wipes can help lift some of the color of the stain and also help to prevent the stain spreading elsewhere to your rug.  In the event of an ink spill, baby wipes are fantastic!
3. White vinegar is really helpful when it comes to food and drink staining.  Just add a teaspoon of white vinegar to a cup of warm water to create a highly effective cleaning solution.  Use your fingers to gently apply this mixture to the spill.  Remember, work your way from the outside of the stain toward the center to avoid spreading it!  Once you’ve applied the mixture, blot it with paper towels and repeat this process as needed until you get your desired results.
