Everything You Need to Know About What NOT TO DO With This Kind of Area Rug – Prescott AZ

This little Oriental design rug was bunched up and probably stuck in a corner of a hot storage area somewhere and forgotten about.  When it came into us, it refused to lie flat.  This rug also happened to be a tufted rug (made with tufts of wool yarn poked through a piece of fabric and then glued into place).  The latex glue used to hold this rug together dries out over time, and it’s important to avoid expediting this drying out process.  To help preserve a tufted rug, it should be kept in a temperature-controlled environment.  A hot attic or garage will only expedite the glue drying out on a tufted rug. 

Once it’s dried out, a tufted rug quickly deteriorates and you’ll notice the following:

• A crunchy / cracking sound when you bend the rug.
• A white powder on the floor beneath the rug.
• Lumpy, pea-sized hard substances between the wool tufts and the monks cloth backing.
