Dramatic Photos of What Can Happen if Your Rug Suffers an Undetected Water Damage – Sedona AZ

Here we have a lovely machine made rug from Germany that suffered a water damage while lying on the floor of a client’s home.  Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here and you’re probably trying to figure out how this happened, right?

Months earlier, this client’s roof leaked.  Rain waters came through the roof and soaked the home.  Somehow, someone either didn’t notice that this rug also got wet, or they assumed that the rug would dry just fine in place.  The damage in the above photos occurred beneath the furniture along the wall.  Because the rug remained wet for a long time, the rug was allowed to develop mold and dry rot.  This fairly large area rug covered most of a small room and had a lot of furniture (couch, desk, TV, etc.) covering a large portion of it.  Moving all of this furniture to remove the rug from the home was a hassle, but if this had been done after it was discovered that the roof was leaking, this rug could have been dried properly and avoided damage.  I’ve written before about damages that a rug left wet too long can suffer – bleeding dyes, musty odors, and mold growth followed by dry rot in severe cases like this.

Unfortunately, however, we only discovered this damage when we were called in to remove the rug to bring back to our washing facility for a cleaning.  The homeowner has contacted their insurance company and we are now going through the process of helping her obtain an appraisal for replacement value along with possible repairs.
