Most people don’t realize that their area rug acts as a filter for their home and catches everything! From dry soil to germs and other irritants that come in from outside.
Here is a photo of the soil that came out of a rug during our preliminary inspection JUST BY FLIPPING IT OVER! Look at all of that dry soil that has fallen out of that rug! This level of dry soil is considered quite excessive and one of the reasons you should always vacuum your rug frequently! When dry soil is allowed to work its way down into the base of the rug, where the knots sit and at the base of the fibers, it grinds away at those delicate fibers. Dry soil looks and acts a lot like sandpaper. Rugs live a harsh life on our floors, constantly taking a pounding from the force of us walking on them.
As I’ve discussed in articles before, though, simply vacuuming your rug frequently is not enough to ensure your rug lasts! A rug needs a good, thorough cleaning every 1-3 years, depending on the level of activity in your home. Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care will thoroughly dust your rug before we wash it. We gently shake loose the dry soil that’s trapped in the base of your rug before flipping it over, vacuuming the top of it. We then repeat this process until no more dust comes out of your rug before we clean it.
