Rugs shrink unpredictably over time, and this is simply part of the natural cycle. Cloth rugs distort when cotton shrinks, but wool doesn’t.

Blocking involves gently stretching the rug out as it dries into a more even shape. Of course, there are limits to how straight your rug can get through blocking, and it won’t make your rug perfectly straight again.

Naturally, the rug will not be perfect, but we’re usually able to find an acceptable compromise. However, it is impossible to repair a misshapen rug without ruining it.

Blocking a rug is not a permanent solution, and you will find woven rugs go back to their misshapen look after a while.
