Yes, you read the title right, folks - there is someone out there on the internet who cleaned their area rug at a car wash. Ruthie here with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care and I have to say when I found a video on YouTube called How to Clean a Rug for $4.00 at the Car Wash, I had to laugh. The man in the video just pressure washes his rug at his local car wash - he doesn’t test for color-fastness, doesn’t consider water temperature or pressure, and even used car soap on his area rug!
You probably all know what I’m going to say by now - THIS IS SO WRONG! Common sense should tell us by now that using soap meant for washing cars is NOT something you want to use on your area rugs.
Just trust me when I say that this is one rug cleaning method that you should NEVER consider. Maybe if you’re completely done with your rug and don’t care if it gets ruined or falls apart, you might look into this. But why would you take time out of your day and your busy schedule to mess around with cleaning your rug in the first place if you didn’t care about your rug?
Even if you just have a synthetic area rug like olefin or polyester, this is a crazy idea. I don’t even want to think about what would happen if someone did this to a wool or silk area rug! Every single rug requires individualized, specialized care dependent on that rug’s fibers. I assume (at least I hope) that the rug in the video is not a wool area rug, but even synthetic rugs need to be cleaned with specific cleaning solutions and techniques.
