BEFORE & AFTER PHOTOS: Spot Cleaning is Best Left to the Area Rug Cleaning Specialists – Prescott Valley AZ
Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here and I will be the first to tell you that accidents usually happen when you least expect it and when it’s the last thing you need in your busy day. That’s usually how it happens to me, anyway. (Though I can’t say there’s ever a GOOD time for an accident.)
Recently, an Arizona Oriental client had an unfortunate accident with her rug. She brought her rug into us with a large, BRIGHT YELLOW spot. YIKES! A supplement pill unfortunately fell from her hand and opened up on her lovely area rug.
This spot started out relatively small, but in the panic of the moment her husband decided the best thing to do was to quickly vacuum it up. Unfortunately, the brushes of their vacuum only spread the yellow around and what started out as small wound up being quite large!
This supplement pill was turmeric, which I’m told is great for arthritis, helping to moderate insulin, reduce cholesterol, and has a variety of other benefits. But while it’s great for all of this, it’s terrible for area rug fibers. Turmeric is a spice from a root, just like Native Americans may have used to dye wool yarns yellow.
Today, Arizona Oriental’s tip is to avoid spreading dry spills at all costs. Not using a beater bar vacuum will help to avoid this. Instead, use the nozzle hose of the vacuum or a shop vacuum and, without actually touching the rug, hover over the fibers to allow the suction to pull up the dry substance. Once you have removed as much as possible, it’s time to contact Arizona Oriental for the professional cleaning your area rug will need.
As you can see from the post-cleaning photos of this rug, we were able to remove a large majority of the yellow staining. I was really pleased with the results we were able to achieve myself and my client was very happy to have her rug back without a large yellow eyesore!
