Hi folks! Ruthie with Arizona Oriental & Specialty Rug Care here in Prescott AZ again! We’re always more than happy to provide our clients with tips for proper area rug care to our clients so they are prepared for anything that happens in between professional cleanings with us in our facility. Today, I thought I would talk about those loose, wayward yarns that you may have on your area rug.
If your area rug has a thick pile with plush fibers, then you can safely use a pair of embroidery scissors or other small scissors to snip it off. With smaller scissors, you don’t have to worry about accidentally snipping more fibers than the one that you want. It’s also easier to control the smaller blades!
However, if your area rug has looped face fibers or is a flat-weave area rug, DO NOT CUT IT! These kinds of rugs have loops that are continuous - cutting one of them will cause your entire rug to unravel. Imagine how unsightly that would be when compared to just a single yarn pull.
